About this deal

With Orion Lost and Adam-2, Alastair Chisholm has show his ability to create high quality middle grade SciFi, something many have tried and many have failed. It's a plotless (and almost completely wordless) but always engaging series of surreal forced metaphormoses for our everyman hero, whom institutions, industry and nature itself seem compelled to constantly force into new, reductive incarnations--as if any amount of individuality were something to be rigidly stamped out. Adam-2 has to work out what has happened to create, and prolong, the long term war between the humans and robots and find a way to end the war and bring peace. The long-awaited second instalment in Samantha Shannon's Sunday Times and New York Times-bestselling series Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory.

I also liked that one of the main characters was non-binary and it was just a normal part of the story.

The book’s main theme is a strong message of cordial co existence, no matter what differences we have and the fast moving storyline should keep the most reluctant of readers glued to the page. There is poignancy in the opening of Adam-2 as Chisholm gives us Adam alone in a stark basement, obediently carrying out his daily routines of food, homework, play, conversation, story time and bed.

From the author of the highly-acclaimed Orion Lost, Adam-2 is an exciting and hugely gripping science fiction thriller - perfect for fans of Eoin Colfer, Anthony Horowitz, and Philip Reeve. Funks – robots with functional intelligence – and humans have been at war for centuries and there seems no end to the hostilities. There are various themes throughout – war/peace, friendships, family, trust and the rights and wrong of developing AI.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. He finds it deep in a civil war that has been raging almost as long as his imprisonment, humans versus Funks, thinking robots.
