About this deal

Includes a 12" x 12" 20-page booklet and an additional 7" disc with 20 song-fragments: "Fly On The Wall": "A Unique Insight Into The Beatles At Work In Rehearsal And In The Studio During January 1969". They also changed the mix so that more instruments were heard in that last repeated verse, to try and make it a little more interesting. And the incompetence of the character he played doomed him to be typecast forevermore playing the kind of inept characters in movies no one really likes that much.

Not the greatest selection of songs The Beatles ever put together, more of a Beatles for Sale level album than a Revolver level album really, but one with enough classics to deserve its place in The Beatles’ canon. Producer Rick Rubin said he had "mixed feelings"; although excited about a new Beatles release and especially the sound of "Two of Us", he expressed admiration for the original Phil Spector production that Let It Be. Anthony DeCurtis of Rolling Stone noted that "[while] the sonic improvements to the album as a whole are undeniable .It is unfortuante that there are in my listening audible places in Naked where there seems like relatively noticeable overload to the point of over-saturation and even light distortion. At some point it would be great if it was remastered without noise reduction but we have just had the 50th box set so I see this release as quietly fading into the night.

This new version was mixed and produced by Paul Hicks (son of Hollies' Tony Hicks), Guy Massey and Allan Rouse. Lennon had defended Spector's work, saying, "He was given the shittiest load of badly recorded shit – and with a lousy feeling to it – ever. It was obvious that, at times during these sessions (especially after they moved out of the Twickenham movie studio and into their premises in Savile Row - and added Billy Preston, who may have had a calming influence), they actually appeared to get on quite well. It also omits two tracks from the 1970 release – " Dig It" and " Maggie Mae" – replacing them with " Don't Let Me Down", which was the non-album B-side of the " Get Back" single.Above all, the removal of the "wall of sound " production techniques lifts a murky cloud off the whole album. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the original version of “I’ve Got a Feeling” is the best, I agree with you, that whoop does add a lot to the song.

Hell, the album was only 35 minutes total, there was a good 45 minutes of space left on the compact disc, the paltry 20 minutes of “Fly on the Wall” gibberish would have fit easily.I totally agree with you on the sound of LiBN, I personally think it sounds great, the sound really justifies the release for me.

Same with “Don’t Let Me Down”, which wasn’t on the original album, and I am not sure how its inclusion helps make the album more Naked than it was to begin with, but what the hell, it sounds great here. Now that I have finally got round to listening to the 2003 re-mastered version of LIBN I am pleased with the result. I’m not quite as negative on it as you are but we agree on it being one of my least liked Beatle releases or “reworks”. But for some weird reason the producers decided the world needed another version, so we got yet another version with a solo from George Harrison patched in from someplace else. I'm sure it's fine if you're hearing this music for the first time and Across The Universe is good, but that's all for me.
