About this deal

The OM-10 hit the markets in June 1979 at the same time as the OM-2N. The camera was a 35mm focal-plane shutter aperture priority AE SLR camera with an electronic shutter. Only aperture-priority AE was available with the camera unless the optional manual exposure adapter was installed. This allowed the setting of shutter speeds between 1s and 1/1000s, (bulb mode was also available). The camera was equipped with a fixed pentaprism viewfinder which contained an LED exposure indicator. The finder coverage was measured to be 93%.

Essentially an OM-20 with auto-focus capability. With a normal lens there were lights in the view finder to help the user with manual focusing. I don’t think the Olympus Zuiko lenses need any introduction: they may not be Zeiss glass or anything, but man they’re great. Plenty sharp for anything you’re shooting on 35mm, and they have just the right amount of character to them. The double-digit consumer models featured smaller, fixed viewfinders, have generally slower top shutter speeds, and do not have the same connectivity to off-camera flashes as their seniors. These cameras were also manufactured with lower-cost components, where the rigors of their moving parts are not rated for as many activations as the professional line. Though well built, the robustness and the solid feel of the single-digit models are just not very apparent with this line. Nothing fancy. When I eventually took up digital photography in the mid 2010s, it was actually a return to my roots, with a couple of Olympus OM-D E-M5 MARK IIs, cameras which reminded me of my old OM10.The OM-2 is one of the smallest and most compact SLRs of all time. At 136 x 83 x 50mm it’s smaller than many of today’s mirror-less cameras, and with a standard lens attached its depth only increases by 30mm. Weight is 690g (24 oz) with the standard Zuiko 50mm F/1.8 mounted. For reference, a Nikon D610 body weighs 850g, and a Leica M3 body weighs 580g. There are a few too many M.Zuiko lenses to cram into a single guide, and they cater for a multitude of purposes and user types, so we've split our guide into four sections: Vignetting is the darkening of the corners of an image relative to the center of the image. There are three types of vignetting: optical, mechanical, and natural vignetting. The OM-20 also features an aperture priority system when set in automatic mode, which is excellent for beginners. Can images speak? Eloquently, when they're yours. Making statements no other photographer can. We understand. So our new OM-G says it all. For speed. For strength. For lightness. For brilliance. For you...

Fast-forward two weeks and I just can’t fathom why the OM-2 is so often regarded as second-rate to its competition. This often overlooked and undervalued machine offers so much more than its contemporaries in the areas of detail-oriented conveniences, ease of use, and innovation. With fantastic performance, unprecedented compactness, and sheer fun-factor, it’s clear that the common opinion of the Olympus machine is completely incongruous to its actual value as a photographic device.Practically speaking, the OM-2 is a wonderful machine to use primarily due to its small size. Through the dogged work of famed designer Yoshihisa Maitani (whose name is immortalized by the “M” in “OM”) Olympus was driven to create a new world in which SLRs could be well-made and full-featured while still maintaining a tiny footprint. They succeeded with the OM-1, and that legacy carried on to subsequent OMs. The final SLR for this post was recently gifted to me by my wife. It had been her high school camera when she studied art, and then put away. Well, actually it saw more use as a bookend and I can see why. Weighing in at one kilo, the body and combined 50/1.8 is a tad hefty, and even feels heavier than that when first handled. But after a while, it just seems to become lighter in the hand. This camera feels like quality. This camera is the Canon FT QL. This camera is currently my favourite camera! Canon FT QL – now this is a camera I like
